Happy Accidents

Happy Accidents: A series of all the images that didn't quite work but still have an odd beauty to them. From the abject failures to the ones that were milestones on the way to the best images.

Strange New Sights

Sat Jul 4, 2009, 12:44 PM
Happy Independence Day!

Though I’ve always seen it as a strange thing to celebrate: A festival that – to me – seemingly marks the casting off of the yoke of history and embracing reliance on self. Yes, freedom is a glorious thing: the freedom to express, experiment and to let your dreams be realised – without barriers – in all that you strive to achieve. But, we still need others: Those who care for us, those who inspire us and those who love us.

So, in a feat of demented rebranding, I wish you all a happy Interdependence Day!

And today, I cast of the yoke of my own history: The errors, the hurts and the misconceptions that dominated my approach to painting and life. Though none of us can escape our past and are destined to carry it with us through all our days, it is not the master of what is to come. So, it’s time to create something new and to rely on others to do it.

So, I begin to create again and start the long road to painting once more. And, as my own interpretations led to me stopping, I shall rely on those of others to restart.

The first piece will be ‘The Incident Room’, a sculpture based upon ‘Cataract WIP’ by :iconurartadkonst: and, it’ll be made in Kneadatite – the first medium I ever truly worked in.

After ‘The Incident Room’, I shall work alone on a sculpture of ‘Memento Quorum’ and this is how my new approach will work: Collaborating with other artists in one medium and then working alone in the same: Two works in each medium, then I move on to the next.

I’ll only work on one main piece at a time, though will be planning and creating studies for other collaborations throughout this period.

So, to those of you who offered to work in collaboration in any medium, we’ll be in touch. And to those who are interested, feel free to ask or offer.

And, once I’ve gone through enough mediums and learnt countless different ways of approaching art: to enable me to destroy and recreate my own, then I shall start to paint again. As with the other media, the first piece will be collaborative.

So, artists in any medium, please feel free to contact me if you wish to collaborate. And, I’m willing to consider any medium, I’ve even just dusted of my piano in preparation!

Oh and all the studies and originals by myself will be for sale.

Happy Interdependence day!
